Ransomware: Looking beyond endpoint protection

Posted by Marcos Colón on Apr 13, 2021

The last year has been one of the most active in the previous decade in cybersecurity. More than 1,000 data breaches took place in the United States alone, with a total of 155 million individuals impacted by data exposures, according to Statista. But when it comes to ransomware, the data on this insidious type of cyberattack is even more alarming.

Time to Rethink How You Provide Secure Internet Access for Remote Workers

Posted by Mehul Patel on Apr 28, 2020

In my last blog , I explored how the COVID-19 global pandemic has accelerated the future of work. Literally overnight, the population of remote employees at most organizations went from 10 percent to 100 percent of the workforce. This has put an enormous strain on network architectures that were built on a traditional hub-and-spoke model that requires security to be delivered centrally. Both inbound and outbound traffic is backhauled through a VPN to the data center, where security policies are then applied—essentially extending data center control and visibility to remote workers.

The Critical Role of SSL Inspection to Avoid Secure Malware Delivery

Posted by Kowsik Guruswamy on Apr 7, 2020

If you think the little green lock of https equals security, think again. The bad news is that the bad guys use encryption too. Many people mistakenly assume that as long as an SSL certificate is present, they’re safe from attack, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. From Reductor to Godlua and numerous other variants, it has become all too clear that new types of malware are being secreted behind a symbol that was once seen as secure.

Bad actors never rest

Creating legitimate-looking fake communications from Google or Microsoft is easy and inexpensive. Novice attackers with little or no coding experience can purchase phishing packs on the dark web that they can customize and then send emails to specific targets based on social engineering intelligence. Free and compromised accounts can also be used as an attack vector , hosting documents that contain malware or links to fake web forms or other malicious sites.
