The security alphabet soup continues to expand, and there’s a new acronym that will soon be at the top of every modern organization’s list – SSE.

SSE stands for Security Service Edge, which is essentially the security side of the SASE architecture. In the latest Gartner Hype Cycle for Cloud Security, analysts Tom Croll and Jay Heiser define SSE as an enterprise tool that “secures access to the web, cloud services, and private applications. Capabilities include access control, threat protection, data security, security monitoring, and acceptable use control enforced by network-based and API-based integration. SSE is primarily delivered as a cloud-based service and may include on-premises and agent-based components.”

To break it down a bit further, Menlo Security Senior Director of Cybersecurity Strategy, Mark Guntrip, discusses SSE in less than two minutes in this shareable video.
